Spay and Neuter Services

Our pet clinic in St. Catharines performs professional spaying & neutering for most pets.

Carlton Animal Hospital provides routine spay and neuter surgery for cats and dogs at our animal hospital on Lake Street in St. Catharines. We also perform soft-tissue procedures and some orthopaedic surgery. Our pet clinic has cared for both common and exotic pets in the Niagara Region for more than 10 years.

What’s the difference between spaying and neutering?

Spaying is surgery for female pets and neutering is surgery for males. Both are done under general anaesthesia.

If you’re unsure about the right time to spay or neuter your pet, ask at a regular check-up.

How is my pet cared for during surgery?

When Dr. Joseph performs surgery, he uses sterile surgical technique and gas anaesthesia, with a surgical technician assisting. Our equipment monitors your pet’s heart rate and blood oxygen levels continuously throughout.

Does Carlton Animal Hospital spay and neuter exotic pets?

We do surgery on exotic pets. Dr. Joseph has experience caring for rabbits, ferrets, lizards and snakes, and he spent four years as a zoo veterinarian. Please call our office to check whether he can treat your pet.

What should I expect after my pet’s spay or neuter?

When your pet goes home, we’ll give you instructions for home care and feeding. Please follow them closely while your pet recovers.

If something doesn’t seem right, or anything comes up that the veterinarian or technician didn’t mention, give us a call. Emergencies always take priority at Carlton Animal Hospital.
